Packages: What’s Included
Below you can find a list of the packages I offer for each type of editing. Each type has some significant differences, and their definitions may vary somewhat from editor to editor, so if you’re unsure of what kind of editing you may need or you want additional information on these packages, check out the Start Here page. If you still have questions, just send me a message, and I’ll be happy to answer them.
Please note that I do not read material containing extremely graphic violence.
Copyediting
With copyediting, the aim is to polish and hone a manuscript that is otherwise ready for querying agents or publishing. It includes:
- one read-through of your manuscript
- edits to grammar, spelling, punctuation, and any other typos or inconsistencies, following the most recent edition of the Chicago Manual of Style (unless you arrange to use a different style guide)
- a Word document with your edits in Track Changes
Price: $35 per hour
Proofreading
A manuscript ready for proofreading should already be in near-perfect shape. This stage of editing checks for typos that may have been missed previously, layout problems (if applicable), or any new errors that may have been introduced during copyediting. It includes:
- one read-through of your manuscript
- correction of any remaining typos or errors
- a Word document with your edits in Track Changes
Price: $32 per hour
Line Editing
This kind of editing is usually for manuscripts with a solid foundation, when you feel you’re unlikely to make any huge changes to major plot points or characters. It includes:
- one read-through of your manuscript
- chapter-by-chapter comments on sentence structure, transitions, dialogue, pacing, voice, etc.
- a Word document with your edits in Track Changes
Price: $37 per hour
Please note that I currently only accept YA/teen fiction for line editing.
Developmental Editing
This kind of editing is typically for early drafts or manuscripts that haven’t yet been read or critiqued. It includes:
- one read-through of your manuscript
- an editorial letter
- chapter-by-chapter comments on plot, character development, pacing, etc.
- a Word document with your edits in Track Changes
- a 30-minute discussion of your edits via instant messenger or voice chat
Price: $40 per hour
Please note that I currently only accept YA/teen fiction for developmental editing.
Sensitivity Reading
Sensitivity reading usually works best for manuscripts that are close to the copyediting stage. I do sensitivity reads for lesbian/queer (cisgender), asexuality, and depression and anxiety representation. It includes:
- one read-through of your manuscript
- comments throughout your manuscript as needed
- an editorial letter
- a Word document with your edits in Track Changes
Price:
- $250 per manuscript of 50,000–75,000 words
- $300 per manuscript of 75,000–100,000 words
I accept all genres for sensitivity reading.
Add-Ons
- 30-minute discussion of your edits via instant messenger or voice chat – $30
- a hard copy of your copyedits or proofs mailed to you – $25

Pricing and Payment
Although I list hourly rates for my editing services, I actually calculate the total price for your project as a flat fee, based on the estimated number of hours your project will take. This means you know exactly how much you’re going to pay right at the start—you won’t see a price increase if the project takes longer to complete than I anticipated.
To calculate the flat fee, I first request some sample material from you. For developmental editing, I’ll need your first three chapters and a synopsis. For line editing, copyediting, and proofreading, I request the first fifteen pages (up to 4,000 words) of your manuscript. Regardless of the type of editing you’re getting, I’ll also need to know the project’s total word count (or estimated total word count for developmental editing projects). Once I’ve looked over these materials, I’ll send you a quote for your project.
For payment, I require that half of the flat fee be paid prior to beginning work on your project. The balance is due within five days of the delivery of your edited manuscript.
Currently, I accept payment through PayPal and SquareCash, which are both free to use. If you do not wish to use either of these, please let me know, and we can arrange an alternative method of payment.
