About Me

I’m Rebecca Leach, the freelance book editor behind Scarlet Leaf Editing. I earned my bachelor’s degree in English Writing and Rhetoric and followed that with a master’s in Writing from the New School University in New York City, where I specialized in fiction for teens. Around this time, I also completed my copyediting certification at MediaBistro. Over the course of my career, I’ve worked in journalism, finance, magazines, and children’s book publishing as both an employee and a freelancer.

When I read, my sharp eye is drawn to the errors that multiple previous readers didn’t see. When I edit for content, anomalies in plot, character, setting, and description leap out at me like neon signs. My favorite books are young adult science fiction and fantasy, but I love to read anything I can put my hands on, and it’s always exciting to get to help my clients improve and polish their work!

When not reading or editing, I like to write—anything from tweets to novels. I’m a big nerd who loves Star Wars (the prequels don’t count) and Legos. I also train on the flying and static trapezes, and if I wasn’t an editor, I’d probably run away to join the circus.
